The smoked salmon, paired with tangy cream cheese and fresh vegetables, creates a sophisticated yet simple pizza that’s perfect for seafood lovers.

Whether you’re hosting a gathering or craving a light, fresh meal, this salmon pizza offers an elegant touch to your pizza repertoire. It’s a great alternative to classic pizza and can be served as an appetizer or a main course.

Ingredients

For the Pizza Dough:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

1/2 teaspoon sugar

3/4 cup warm water (110°F)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Toppings:

4 oz smoked salmon (or fresh salmon if you prefer)

1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

1 tablespoon sour cream

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

1 small red onion, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon capers

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)

For Garnish (optional):

Fresh arugula or spinach leaves

Extra dill or chives for garnish

How to Make

Step 1: Make the Pizza Dough

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy and bubbly.

In a larger mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until the dough starts to come together.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 2: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

Step 3: Prepare the Pizza Base

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two portions if you’re making two smaller pizzas, or keep it as one large pizza.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a round shape about 10-12 inches in diameter. If using a pizza stone, transfer the dough onto a piece of parchment paper.

Brush the dough lightly with olive oil. Bake the pizza base for 8-10 minutes, until the crust is lightly golden and crispy.

Step 4: Prepare the Toppings

While the pizza crust is baking, prepare the cream cheese sauce by mixing the softened cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, and chopped dill in a small bowl. Stir until smooth and well combined.

Thinly slice the smoked salmon (or fresh salmon if using) into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

Slice the red onion and prepare the capers for garnishing.

Step 5: Assemble the Salmon Pizza

Once the crust is baked, remove it from the oven. Spread the cream cheese sauce evenly over the pizza base.

Top with the smoked salmon, thin slices of red onion, and capers.

Place the pizza back in the oven for an additional 3-5 minutes to warm through, just to heat the toppings without overcooking the salmon.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

After baking, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two.

Garnish with fresh dill, arugula or spinach leaves, and extra black pepper if desired.

Slice and serve immediately, enjoying the savory, creamy, and smoky flavors of the salmon pizza.

Chef’s Note

You can use a store-bought pizza dough if you’re short on time, or substitute cauliflower crust for a gluten-free option.

If you prefer fresh salmon over smoked salmon, you can lightly cook the salmon before adding it to the pizza. To do so, sear the salmon fillets for 2-3 minutes on each side, then flake it and use as a topping.

For added flavor, drizzle a little lemon-infused olive oil or garlic oil over the pizza before serving.

This pizza pairs wonderfully with a light, crisp white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.
